I'm not sure but perhaps the formatting of the drive changed once you plugged it into a windows machine or something. Check what formatting the drive has in disk utility.
 
On my old MBP one of the ports always seemed a bit slower than the others when transferring data. I also once had a problem with the cable. When once it used to transfer at what seemed USB2 rates eventually started slowing down to USB1.1 speeds. I changed the cable and things got back to normal.
