    Hey everyone,

My Macbook Pro just died and since I'm out of warranty, I probably have to get a new one.

I'm looking at either the MacBook Pro 15"
    2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    750GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

or the iMac, either 21.5 or 27"
    2.7GHz Intel Core i5
    1920 x 1080 resolution
    4GB (two 2GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
ATI Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB

I need to to run the full Adobe Creative Suite and play mid-level PC games, like League of Legends. I'd use BootCamp for the games. I understand PCs are better for gaming, but I've already invested in the full Adobe Suite and use it for work, so I'm already locked into getting a Mac, unless I wanted to shell out for two computers, and price is definitely a concern. I also have an old Mac 20" monitor- was hoping to just get a 13" Macbook Pro but I think they're just too underpowered for what I need.

League of Legends played OK on my old 2008 15" Mac, but the graphics were on the minimum setting and my computer tended to get really hot, so I used a fan under it. I'd like better performance from the games without spending a fortune if possible.

    Thanks for any help!

Drivers are bottleneckeing the 650M at the moment. As soon as they get better, it will fly away.

I would rather get an iMac with a Radeon HG 6970M 2GB! That will be the best you can do.

Or do it my way:Get a used Mac Pro for 1500$ and throw a high-end GTX 570 2.5GB in. Great GPU.

    Hey there,

    Both options are viable.
Rather depends on your preference of having mobility or not.

Seeing the iMac options, I'd rather go for a model with at least 1GB of video RAM.

Since you have a 20" monitor, maybe the MBP would just be the perfect match?
Though the 27" iMac screen is ... wonderful to have.
Question is: you want to be able to carry it or not !?

You think it's a driver issue on the 15? That's good to know. It can't even run Civ 5 on all low settings without stuttering and crashing.

Meanwhile, I had a 13" 2012 MBP run the game fairly flawlessly (save for one issue in leader scenes) - no stutter and zippy performance...

It is. The 650M itself is very powerful. Test it on Windows, your mind will be blown.
Have you installed 10.8.2? There are some driver updates included.
Also try installing this one (from Nvidia direct):

The iMac does not have USB3, or Sata III... its a dinosaur.
The MacBook Pro is a better choice. Just don't get the Retina display, 50% of them have image retention. And if you get the MacBook Pro, make sure the LCD is not yellow or washed out

But you could always call Adobe and ask them to migrate your license to windows... they do that.
