i have just bought a refurbished apple macbook pro 17" from the apple refurb site, i know that i comes with one years warranty from apple.

Am i eligible to purchase the apple aftercare to extend the hardware support upto 3 years, as its a refurbished macbook and not brand new.

Yes. If you look at the refurb page, they offer AppleCare in each product family on the page. You can buy and register your computer at anytime during its one year warranty period.

Can see the end of the Earth from here
AppleCare is available for any new or refurb Mac product, as long as it's purchased before the end of the standard warranty.

I would encourage anyone who buys a notebook to get AppleCare, as I think that the likelihood of something going wrong is much higher on a notebook than a desktop.

Check out the Educational Store, as the prices for AppleCare are considerably less than the regular retail store. The probability that you qualify for an educational discount is pretty high - just read through the requirements when you first go to the store. You'll find it by going to the Apple Store online and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. On the lower right side is an icon that points to the Education Store.
