I have a late 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro. As you're probably aware, they come with two USB ports on the left side. For the purpose of this thread, we'll call them 1 and 2 (front and back as you're looking at the screen). I also have a notebook cooler with a three-port USB hub. We'll call those ports A, B, and C front to back. My usual configuration is to have my heavy duty mechanical keyboard connected to the Mac on port 1. The USB hub is connected to port 2 with a Logitech G602 wireless mouse receiver in port A, a USB 10-key number pad in port B, and port C open to connect a gamepad or my AIO printer.
Here's the weird thing: If I switch the connections on the Mac (keyboard on port 2, USB hub on port 1), my machine does strange things. The G602 refuses to work all together, and my system will no longer boot Windows (I have it installed through Boot Camp). If I move the G602 to any other USB port, be it on the hub or connected directly to the Mac, everything works fine. I can have the keyboard and USB hub connected to either USB port on the Mac and have the G602 in B and C on the hub. It's only when the G602 is on port A on the hub and connected to the Mac on USB 1 that there's an issue.
Naturally, I've reconfigured the setup to where the G602 is on port B on the hub so all is well, but has anyone heard of something like this? Any ideas at all as to why the system would behave badly when set up this one specific way?
