Uh, no. Did anyone seriously think $12.99/month “Creator” apps would pair well with launching $3,000+ MacBook Pros?

M5 Pro/Max is expected to come with new chip level packaging allowing more than 128GB RAM and much higher bandwidth. The target market is data scientists, AI, people running Premier Pro, Resolve, Fusion, etc.
Well, depends. Creator Studio includes Final Cut and Logic Pro, which are serious apps (although I suspect few professionals will take the subscription version at the beginning), but that's not even my main point.

The (non-base M4) MacBook Pro starts at $1999, and it has a very wide target audience. Not just data scientists or similar, but people who just see it as premium laptop (screen, speakers...) or aspirational users. So launching it together with Creator Studio would have made sense.

Apple isn't trying to focus around the $1,999 model. They're trying to go after actual power users buying the $3,000+ MacBooks.

It's pretty simple, look at the press release for the M4 Pro/Max. Do you see them mentioning Final Cut or Logic? It's not even in the same class. Why would M5 Pro/Max go after Creator Studio?

M5 Pro and M5 Max are believed to be designed and fabricated on a new chiplet process that splits the CPU and GPU zones to allow for more flexibility in core counts. If true, TSMC may still be trying to scale yields to levels Apple needs for a launch or Apple is taking what TSMC can ship and needs more time to pre-stock what they are getting from TSMC to have enough in the pipeline to meet the initial launch demand.

If the redesigned machines will actually have touch enabled screens maybe it is a new product line? I simply cannot picture regular MacBook Pro machines all having touch screens. Maybe it will be the folding screened laptops we have read rumors about?

How much performance difference is expected form M5 to M5 Pro I wonder. Currently running an M4 pro Mini with 24Gb ram and was looking at the M5 with additional ram to allow the running of local LLM. My m4 Pro mini handles my other workload well up to and including 3D rendering. I gave my MacBook Air to my kid for Uni so I'm laptop less at the moment.
Hi there. Would you mind sharing what you use your local LLM for? Obviously local means personal, but I find the idea fascinating even though I'll probably never figure out how to do it.

I was a LITTLE reluctant to pull the trigger on the 16” M4 I got in September given all the rumors. In hindsight I’m glad I purchased when I did. I got a half decent discount on what is, and will be an excellent computer for years to come. The design is throughly matured and is reliable. The form factor is perfect for what it does. I kinda had FOMO on the M5 and probably would have been a little pissy had it come out quick on the heals of my purchase but the time was right. It’ll be 6 months I’ve had it before the M5 comes out and to be honest the M4 is future proof for me for a long time so I feel like I did OK with it.

Of course they try to focus on the most expensive models, as I said, it’s aspirational. But look at the press release you attached: they also talk about writing tools. Do you think they’re targeting the kind of professional who needs an M4 Max with Apple Intelligence? No, they’re targeting many different “classes”. It’s just that, with different releases, they promote different stuff.

Also, i.e. Logic is a first-class professional app that uses a lot of resources (based on your comment, it sounds like it’s basically Garageband).

I'll believe it when the Russian YouTubers start reviewing them. Or at least Benchmark leaks. But seriously, What if the M5 series never was intended to have a Pro or Max chip, and they're skipping them for the M6 series?
Yes, i'm beginning to wonder if we will see the entire M5 family if M6 is projected to arrive next October?

Sounds like it's going to come out the same time as the Mac Studio with the M5 Max and M5 Ultra in that case.
I think you’re exactly right, which would fix the odd trailing releases of chips. Because the M5 Pro and Max use this new stacking fabrication you know Apple will tout it as some technological breakthrough, and what better way to drive the point home than showcasing the M5 Ultra at the same time.

I’ve pretty much given up at this point and either going to keep using my M1 Pro, or go back to using Linux. This is absurd. It’s not a new model laptop, it’s not packed with all new features, etc…it’s simply a chip upgrade. There’s zero reason to drag this out like Apple has. Apple must be out of new ideas and continue with stale products is the only sensible idea. We’ll (almost) get GTA6 before getting a MacBook Pro M5 Pro/Max

The PowerBook G5 will arrive first:

See while they were update it over next few months, and then potentially release a completer redesign a few months later. Either there is pre redesign or the full redesign isn't coming until 2027. Unless they release an update very soon and then redesign in october but still seems unlikely.

they have a pic in the release for max chips just fyi

and fyi most graphic and video editors us pro machines and spend well up to $3000.

people that use the creator studio would use the pro machine.

have you watched content creators and YouTube review and unboxing??

majority are maxing out there laptops and dont use a base machine.

professional graphic designer dont use base machines majority of the time.

the only reason I settled for a base cause I was planing on upgrading when the pro machines come out.

but the m5 is so powerful there's no need to. which saves a bunch of Money. and im sure this id due to how good the
silicon chips are. In the past you would have to spend between 2500 - 3000 for a good machine.

My m2 air was almost as good as my iMac Pro.

but would tap out with handling both music and graphics software heavy.

so to say people that would uses the creator studio aren't spend that amount of money or target is absurd.

Your screenshot shows Autodesk Flame with M4 Max. Subscription for that app is $650/month.

It reaffirms how silly it is to expect M5 Pro/Max to launch with $12.99/month Creator Studio.

Once again, Apple isn't targeting the high school kids running Creator Studio. They're expecting people in production studios, AI, data scientists, quant, to use M5 Pro/Max.

so you think apple is targeting high school kids running creator studio.

so apple invited a bunch of kids to a 3day creator event.

gotcha.

I get what your saying cause I dont use any off apple software. nobody does,

but lets not forget this is apple who still a company, who would capitalize of profit and trying to push there products first.
