As an aspiring music producer, I decided to buy a MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina Display (since it’s the only MacBook with 16GB RAM), but I see there are two models. The differences between them are:
1) The processor (but I don’t think the user would be able to perceive any difference in speed because of this, do you agree??
2) Storage: 256GB versus 512GB (!!)
I think storage is the only significant difference. But the option with more capacity is way more expensive.
Since I don’t think 256GB is enough to manage my music, should I buy the 256GB option and also buy an external drive, or do you think the 512GB option is worth the price?
Will I have any potential risks with an external drive? (I never used MacBook before).

Thank you so much!

The 13-inch Macbook Pro can also be configured with 16GB of RAM. You probably won't need 16GB of RAM.

You won't really notice much of a difference with the change in processor, but it might be better to look at some of the applications you are looking to use and seeing benchmarks for the given processor with those applications.

If 256GB isn't enough, then 512GB probably won't be enough either. Go with 256GB, and get an external drive. The Macbook won't be the issue with stability/reliability, just don't get a cheapo storage drive.

There is a big difference between the 2 15 inch rMBP's

The difference is the dedicated graphics card. As a music producer this is of little interest to you.

You can order both the the 13 and the 15 inch online with up to 16gb of RAM and up to 1TB ssd (although that can get expensive).

If planning to use an external look at the wireless connected ones for ease of use and lack of wires to carry around. Something like these...

As other point out there may well be a 15 inch update tomorrow or within the next few weeks....

Buy after WWDC?

Thank you very much for your comments.

Then do you think I should buy after the WWDC 2015 (8-12 June)?

If a new 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina is presented, then maybe the price of the current versions will go down??

They just updated it today.
