Hope there is a solution to this - this should not be normal:

when I connect my 1920x1080px external monitor to my MacBook Pro 15" HiRes from 2010, the fans start to turn up to about 3500 RPM. I'm using a Mini Display port to VGA adapter.

It seems the MacBook is constantly running on the dedicated Nvidia GT 330M with 256 MB GRAM.

I already cleaned the fans and I'm doing nothing on the computer. No apps, no browsing. As soon as I disconnect the display, the fans turn down.

So.. is this normal? What should I do?

Since the GPU has more work to do, it gets hotter, thus the fans spin faster (6,000 RPM is the fastest speed), but the Mac is still fine, as it is not overheating: To learn more: Those Macs in their heat - a sine of over-heating? - a short story by Mister GGJstudios
