I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2012) and when I press the power button it won't power up. The MagSafe power adapter doesn't light up when plugged into the laptop. Do you think the issue is a defective battery or something else? I would swap out the batter but I don't have a spare. Would appreciate comments from someone who has experienced this issue or some ideas?

Beg/borrow another Magsafe (Apple store).
Check your Magsafe on another Mac

Assuming only one issue at a time, probably the Magsafe went out then the battery is flat BUT it could be the Magsafe board in the MBP...

When was it last used and what happened?

if no light on power cord take out magsafe put your finger on resistors if light on magsafe is good. later check sense line on logic board try do jump wire, connect power cable if still no green light you need change power end charge chip. New chip about 10 pound easy change yourself
