My Macbook Pro froze today and when I restarted there was a folder with a ? I know this means that it couldn't find a bootable drive. I thought my hard drive was dead but when I put in a new hard drive it won't recognize that one either. Both drives are not recognized under disk utility. Anyone have any suggestions?

As noted above, the hard drive cable is probably bad. The authorized repair center where I work sees this issue all the time.

Akira81386,

Did you try plugging in the old hard drive to see if it was in fact the cable? I am having the same issue right now. I tried plugging the old drive back in and it shows up in disk utility just fine...

I would try hooking up the hard drive to another mac to make sure it works. If it boots up fine. Then your sata cable would be your bet. If that replacement doesnt work it might be the logic board. 😱
