I have the model mbp just before the santa rose chipset came out so i maximized my ram load at 3 gb and need more? would it be to expensive to replace the chipset? also is their any alternative besides buying a new laptop all together ?

There is nothing more you can do at this point with that machine. I had that same model before I upgraded to what I have today. It's unfortunate, but your computer is 5 years old or there abouts

Replace the chipset with what? Apple didn't make a logic board with a better chip on it to fit that machine.
