Here is a review of Hybrid SLI - basically, it works in real world tests.

The 9600M should perform about 50-75% faster than the 9400M.
Is it not reasonable to expect up to a 50% increase from 9600M + 9400M over 9600M alone?
The possible increment in performance is not as linear as that. Even with a normal SLI mode, 2 equal GPU's, you can't get twice the performance, or an increase of 100%. That's the intention of Intel's Larabee project, I think.
