Buying a macbook for wifes birthday which is in 11 days, hate to put the money down and they upgrade it in two weeks but don't really want to wait til after the birthday.

    Here are my 3 options

    Option A
    Order from store
    2.4 Ghz
    4 GB Ram
    500 GB HD
    All in one Printer

    Total 1,273.95 + Tax
    $100 rebate for printer
return printer to wal mart $110 wal mart giftcard

Estimated Net Total after tax $1,100
    No interest for a year

    Option B
    Craigslist
    2.26 Ghz
    4 GB Ram
    500 GB HD
    Apple wireless keyboard
    Logitech Wireless mouse
    2.5 years Applecare
    Neoprene cover

    Price $995

    Option C
Wait a few weeks something new is going to come out

    Option D

Buy a refurb and upgrade RAM and HD on your own.

E.g. 759$ for the MacBook, 70$ for RAM and 60$ for 500GB HD

    Total price: 889$

Plus, I think refurbs are eligible for the printer rebate so the total would be ~800$ (+tax)

I wouldn't expect anything new anytime soon. MacBook is usually updated about a month after MBPs so you're safe.

That's probably your best bet there. HDD and RAM are easy to upgrade and far cheaper to do so on your own.

Apple's lineup is set for the rest of the year. How many weeks is a "few" to you?

Of course not, unless you break something while doing it. However, the self-installed part(s) are not covered by Apple but the manufacturer or seller usually gives 3-5 years for HDs and lifetime warranty for RAM

If you live in the US, then I would say NewEgg is at least one of the best places to buy from.

I can only see handful of reviews that are saying it's slow. Most of the reviews are 5 stars though so I wouldn't worry. Of course it's slower than SSDs or 7200rpm drives

From my understanding NewEgg has the best deals on Ram/HD. I always buy from them when purchasing things like that. They also ship in a timely fashion :)
