1-3 days for it to be built, it takes 24 hours for it to ship otherwise. How long it will take for them to appear is unknown at this point in time. I presume the same day for pre-ordering.

Normally when apple launch new products, they are in retail stores within 24 hours

The last three new products that I can think of (iPhone, iPod touch, macbook air) have all taken at least a few weeks from introduction to the time that they're available in stores.

According to the article on the front page (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/09/apple-to-launch-an-800-laptop/) "Historically, price lists have appeared as early as a few days ahead of launch. The longest lead time in recent memory was about four days prior to a Monday iMac launch." So that means they should be in stores the same day as the event

It's only when new products are released like the iphone, ipod touch and macbook air, that the stock is unavailable for a couple of weeks or till when steve set's a release date.

When the last macbook and macbook pro was announced, our store had stock within 48 hours and were in australia.

With previous models, if stores still have stock, they usually discount by 8-10% of the new model price. But if rumors are try about more price points this could differ this time
