I think there are benchmarks out there that show the iPad's CPU outperforming the Core M in some areas.

"As a tablet, the Core M powered Yoga 3 Pro will run circles around other tablets when performing CPU tasks. The GPU is a bit behind, but it is ahead of the iPad Air already, so it is not a slouch. The CPU is miles ahead though, even when compared to the Apple A8X which is consistently the best ARM based tablet CPU."

Why is it so hard to understand that the new rMB is basically just as powerful as MacBook Air.

MacBook Air is just thicker, heavier and it has more of those ports that many people here seems to love so much.

rMB is fantastic machine. Get over this bullcrap.

I don't think its as powerful as an air with i5/i7 processors. It would be more powerful than an arm chip though.

I think it is a matter of how many years you have to go back before it is stronger/equivalent to the typical Intel x86 variant of the time.

I bought the 'top of the line' 2010 11" MBA. I hope the new 12" rMB chip is better than that.

Intel supposedly designed this chip to encourage users of 5 years or older notebooks to upgrade.

They actually want to sell the computer. What apps would run on this natively? Not much. It would need an emulator which would actually decrease performance even more.

There's been discussions regarding if apple went to an ARM based processor. Do you want Apple to make it even harder for people to buy a Macbook, because that will be the case.

I can put up with a lot of things:
1) Apple can give me only a single new USB-C port
2) They can supply me only a 480p web-cam
3) They can charge me close to $1600 for the top-end model

They would lose the sale to me immediately if any AX (Arm) chip was the processor.

I would have upgraded immediately when Apple put a better screen on the MBA. (Although a fan-less chip is also exciting).

That's mainly why I come to these forums...to share then excitement since I can't yet play with my 'new toy'.

Yes exactly, lol. I just returned my new 13" rMBP, on the last day of its return window, so I'm computer free until this bad boy hits stores.

I wonder when the preorders will start.

Idk, it's odd that they didn't give a date for that. Maybe they want to be sure what supplies will look like before they start estimating delivery dates. They'll get less $$ from me if they don't so preorders, because I will end up getting whatever the Apple Store has in stock, instead of maxing out a preorder

Hopefully somebody at Apple is reading your posts.

I will wait until I can get a maxed out version.

We should get a nice selection of USB-C accessories flowing out all month to ease the waiting.

The Core M-5Y71 is 43% slower than the i7-5650U in CPU-only benchmarks, and while the i7-5650U has some spare power left for the GPU, the M-5Y71 GPU must take all of it from the CPU.

Only so much you can do with 1/3rd the power with the same architecture.
i think a A8X cpu would have better performances that this core M...
edit: The ipad air 2 scores a bit higher in benchmarks, at least.
