That's not shabby for cost and download, but I am sure it'd be more for just internet. I have no need for cable because we stream everything. 15 mbs upload is not unusual for cable internet, that's what I got with Time Warner. Now with Google Fiber I get the same upload speeds as I do for download (350-450 mbs), in fact sometimes upload is faster than download (go figure).

I am so jealous of your upload speed. We upload video files sometimes and they take forever!

I live 30 miles from Goggle HQ and have no option for Google Fiber.:(

Does the router offer you the option to have both 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz wifi networks?
If so, I'd set it up with individual SSID's for each band.
Then, I'd set up the network/airport on the MacBook so that it could access EITHER band.

Once that was done, I'd try the MacBook on the 2.4ghz band for a while.
If that doesn't work, I'd move it to 5ghz.
Does one work better than the other?

5GHz should be cleaner than 2.4GHz which can carry interference from baby monitors, garage door openers, microwaves, and other comm traffic which gets congested very quickly.

The only other thing I could think of is that I recall reading about cheap wifi enabled printers that really kill network traffic when enabled - the phrase was 'dirty' signals. This would be easier to diagnose if you could connect the MacBook by an ethernet connection direct to the router to eliminate the wireless element rather than anything the Mac itself is doing.

You'd think being that close to their HQ surely you'd have the option for their fiber service! Even within my hometown of Austin, Google is only available in limited patches still, so if I ever move, I likely will be forced to move back to Spectrum :(

I work as a business analyst from home and send large files out constantly, the faster upload speed does make a huge difference. Hopefully one day we will all have access to this kind of internet service!

I was just in Austin and was shocked to see a Goggle Fiber store downtown. I had never seen one before, even in Mountain View

This only started happening recently, Netflix on TV's, other peoples internet on computers throughout the house work fine until my macbook connects to the internet, then everything cuts out or runs mind numbingly slow. Once the internet is turned off on my macbook everything works perfectly again.

One possibility that nobody seems to have mentioned yet so I'll throw it out there:

Check that you don't have "Internet Sharing" enabled on your MacBook. This allows your Mac to act as a relay, sharing one network connection (eg: WiFi) with another (eg: computers connected via Ethernet on a LAN). When Internet Sharing is enabled, the MacBook will act as a DHCP server and hand out network addresses and gateway information to other devices on your network. The problem is, this is what your router is supposed to do. The other computers end up routing packets to the wrong device (your MacBook) instead of the router.

Look in System Preferences -> Sharing and make sure that "Internet Sharing" is disabled/unchecked.

Hey guys, googled this lots and found a few solutions but none work unfortunately.

I've tried turning photostream off in iPhoto, it did nothing, I've also changed the channel on my router but this does nothing. What could it be? It's so annoying!

Macbook OS Sierra 10.12.6
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

I have actually avoided updating my OS because I don't want it to start negatively affecting my macbook like a new OS will on an iphone, but if you think it's worth a shot I will.

Thanks in advance :)

High Sierra will run fine on that machine. It’s Haswell and more than good enough to run High Sierra and the upcoming Mohave well.
