MacBook Screen 'overbright' - not contrast

Although it looks very much like the contrast is set too high, this was the first thing I checked. I also have a band running down the right hand side of the screen that is even worse than the rest. 😕

Any ideas?

It sounds like you have a bad screen. Bring it back to Apple.
