I am debating on getting a new MacBook but the screen does not tilt back very far. I have an Acer Chromebook that I paid around $200 for a few years ago that has worked very well. It has been the easiest UI to use vs Apple or Windows. However, It is limited when trying to add certain programs and other browsers. The screen can be folded nearly flat which makes it a better alternative from certain angles such as when I am sitting on the sofa with legs crossed etc. Im not sure why Apple thought it was a good idea to make the screen more limited.

It’s an engineering choice. There’s a reason your Chromebook has it and lots of premium laptops, if not all, don’t.

I kind of wonder if its not more about Apple saving money by keeping the hinge simpler and not adding the little extra to make the the hinge fold better. Seems that other companies tend to follow Apples lead to be more like apple. We got our kids some premium laptops for school that had the same hinge type as macbook as you were saying. I still don't see how its better though from a mechanical standpoint. I may end up going back to windows but not sure yet.
