Hello everyone,
Just wanted to know your opinion in an SD card of 128Gb that I want to buy to expand my macbook storage. I just want to put music and photos, do I need a speedy SD card or a simple Samsung class 10 is enough?

Thanks in advance!

I already have an adapter to my macbook in aluminium, so I just need a micro sd card. I need to know if class 10 is sufficient or I need some minimum speed...
It's just for music and photos..

A year ago I tried to use a micro SD card to expand memory and was less than satisfied. Micro cards are not built as robust as regular SD cards. I had three and they all corrupted now and then. The Mac seems to treat the card like a USB device, and there were sleep and wake issues along with mounting and unmounting quirks. Speed for photos or video was not an issue, although slow, but if your use case is a lot of read/writes, the micro SD cards don't seem to work well in that environment.

If you mean regular SD cards, they are much better, but you need like 96 MB/s rated ones for really big RAW photos. 4-5MB images are no big deal, however.

Oh, by the way, mini adapters similar to the nifty drive are widely available in the US. For some laptops, the housing needs to be shaved a bit to fit.

So basically you are saying that class 10 I'm fine with it right? I don't use images in RAW... And I just listen to music 320kbs.
I bought a special micro SD card adapter in aluminium, so it won't be noticeable and doesn't stick out of the computer.
You don't think it will fit my needs? I will just use it to listen to music and see some pictures

I have several "half" cards that I use in the SD scard slot. I have several brands, as well. PNY makes the StoreEDGE cards in multiple storage sizes (64GB and 128GB). The other brands - Nifty and TheMiniDrive use MicroSD cards, and the ones that I have currently support up to 128GB MicroSD cards.

I use them for storing work projects - photos that I am working on, documents related to other projects, and one that I use to store movies. The StorEdge has a small lip that sticks out just enough to allow you to grab it to eject the drive. The other versions sit completely flush with the rMPB, and have little slots where you can "hook" them with the provided tool to eject them.

Over all, very handy - especially on a rMBP with the limitation of the SSD drive storage.

Thanks for all the info in ways to increase the Macbook storage but now I'm only interested in knowing the the SPEED of class 10 is enough or I need more?
I will just use it to listen to music (320kbs) and storage some photos.

Thanks!

(Necromancy!) I'm looking for a SD card to plug into my MBA for somewhere to put my Photos albums. It's now Nov 2016, what SD cards do you recommend? (128GB or 256GB)

Any love for microSD adaptors?

Any reason why I should pay double the price of a SD for the Transcend Jetdrive?

Thanks RedTomato
