    Odd question, but indulge me...
Is it possible to turn the light off while the macbook is in standby mode? Rather than have the light 'glowing'/'breathing'.

    Many thanks.:)

    Not that I'm aware of.
Why would you want to do that anyway, its been put there so you know its in standby and hasn't switched off.

Because it is extremely annoying to have that pulsating light in a room where you sleep. I always have to cover it up.

The first gen iMac G5s were ridiculous so bad that apple put out a firmware update to reduce the brightness of them.

As far as I am aware you can't turn it off.

Could always put a small bit of tape on it.

Or turn it away from you, so it's not facing you when you sleep. Or put it in another room.

few of the many solutions to your problem:
    1)turn the macbook off
    2)put it away
3)turn it in the opposite direction
    4)throw it out the window
    5)wear glasses while you sleep
6)go out into the world to develop real conflicts/issues so as to not be so easily bothered by trivial/nonexistent ones

I just toss a sweatshirt over my MBP at night.

    It's not that hard.

It take my MacBook only, and literally, four seconds to turn off. Turning it on only takes 12 seconds.

Turn off your MacBook at night ;)

Seriously? I have a 17" mbp with 3 gigs of ram, and mine takes a little over a minute to start up and another 45 seconds to load Safari. Sure, it's not much time, but it ain't 12 seconds.
