I'm tempted by the $999 Best Buy deal with a 10% off coupon which leaves me at around $975 after taxes. With the refresh coming up I'm tempted to wait but do you all think the MB when refreshed will still start at $1299? If so, I think the old model might even be a good deal at $999 when the new one is released.

What do you all think, will the new model start at $1299 still and will the old model still be a good deal at $999?

This is what I'm wanting to know. My 15 day return windows ends tomorrow on the Macbook I bought ($818 before tax). I strongly doubt the new Macbook will be near that but I am curious if Apple will drop it to $999 for the base model.

I'm torn on what I should do.

Look for an open box for even more savings.

Keep it.

That is a really excellent price. Even if they do come out with a new computer and it's $999, you should be able to sell your current one to recoup almost the entire cost of what you paid for it. I would keep yours, enjoy that you got a great price on it, and decide what to do if they do release new models on the 21st. I think you'd be really sad if you returned your machine and then they didn't refresh the rMB until summer.

How'd you get it so cheap? The open box models I see are like $879.

If I could buy a MacBook at 999,- I'd buy it straight away. If there will be a generation 2 MacBook in 11 days it's will probably sell for a lower price but not for 999,- and only the processor can get an upgrade. Everything else will be the same.

There. Is. No. Impending. Refresh.

If it happens at all this year, and I doubt it, it will be for Back To School and it'll be in late August. Buy the notebook now, do not wait.

Open box item + 10% off coupon. Coupons apparently don't work in the store but I used it online and did in-store pickup.

Thanks to everyone in here for the advice. I'll just keep it for the time being and see what's in store for the Macbook at a later date.

Not sure why people are telling you to buy now when we just got an invite for the March event, the same event where this machine was introduced last year. The Skylake Core-M chips suitable for the rMB have been available for a good while. If anything, wait 11 days and see what happens on March 21st.

What refresh? Not even a hint of one has been heard.

Last year at this date there was also not a single rumor about a brand new MacBook 12" with Retina and a fancy keyboard.
Just look at the cycles + the amount of days it updates. We don't say Phill will talk 30 minutes about the new version because they can only upgrade it processor but it still possible they will upgrade it quietly.
Or what if this will be the end of the Air and we will see also a 14" MacBook on the side.

It's all possible..

Considering The last time Apple held an event at their campus (October 2014) they announced updates to a couple of the MacBooks, introduced the 5K iMac and announced the iPad Air 2 alongside some info about Apple Watch and OSX, I think it's possible we could see some updates on the MacBook and maybe even the Air and or Pro models.

I happen to have a mover's coupon that works online. I'm very tempted. I just saw I can get an "Excellent" open box at $791 plus tax or brand new for $899 plus tax . Not sure though if I trust Excellent over brand new to save $108.

Heck you can probably just ask them to open it in the store before you leave. Always your call of course.

The gen 2 rMB has been pushed from the March event to WWDC in June. That's less than 100 days from now so if I were thinking of buying a gen 1 right now then I'd feel unhappy for the gen 2 to arrive in the next quarter.

I ended up ordering the space gray base model from BestBuy. Paid $899 plus tax at BestBuy after using a movers coupon. I might be dumb for buying it a week before an Apple event but I figure this meets my needs and there's no way this will be regularly priced at $899 or lower anytime soon. And if something crazy happens at the event and I must have a new one, I'll still be inside my 14 day return window.

No event for particular MacBook. There might be a quiet update which is ssd, or processor. I'm really happy what I did last week getting it.

I bought mine in June, open box, movers coupon and 4x points. Been playing with it since then and still love it. Best purchase I've made at that time, so anyone still on the fence right now, I'd suggest just do it. Great little laptop. I use it as my work machine (I'm a journalist). I have a 1080p external monitor at work that I connect it to when I want a bigger screen. Otherwise it does everything I need it to do and I can carry it in my iPad bag WITH my iPad.

I just bought a new 15" rMBP that my wife has snagged as her photography machine. I've turned my attention to a rMB since I don't think I need something as beastly anymore. Like most people, I'm looking at next Monday with suspicion, especially since BB is having such steep sales on them. I know they're underpowered but with the $300 sale and an additional $50 off student coupon, it's reeeeally hard to hold off.

You can save a few more bucks by buying an online movers coupon on eBay. It will cost you about $20 and save you $100. I got this deal for $899+ tax.

Just look at it this way. Let's say Monday they announce an updated RMB with newer processor, gpu, front facing camera, and slightly improved battery life. Would you be in on that machine at $1,299+ tax or would the RMB right now at $899 be more to your liking? To me I didn't want to pay $1299 regardless so it was a fairly easy decision.

Best Buy rep confirmed that the sale will end March 27th. I wonder if rMB updates will be announced on Monday with units being available a week later.

Thanks for the Movers Coupon idea. Definitely worth checking out.
