Obviously you've never used a Thinkpad. Their keyboards are way above any Macbook. In fact, they were and still are the best in business. I wish Apple would look at them and try to imitate them rather than those keyboard designs used in today's MB and MBP.

+1

I have both the MBP and an IBM Thinkpad. The Thinkpad's keyboard is definitely better than that on the MBP.

I type pretty quickly, and the TP has the best responsiveness of all the laptop keyboards that I am aware of.

I desperately hope not, but it would seem the most logical decision. There is little price and spec difference between the lowest MacBook Pro and the latest Air would appear to truly take the lower price margin laptop. Perhaps they should call both the MacBook and the lowest MacBook Pro one name, with a choice of design?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

If discontinuing the White MacBook led to a price drop on the 13" Pro, it could be interesting, with 11.6" as entry. But I don't see it happening as the Air isn't really powerful enough to replace the White MacBook, in terms of filling the void that would be left

I have no idea what they are going to do with it. When the 11" Air rumours broke i thought that the MacBook could be the 11" laptop and the Air staying at 13.

As far as merging, It seems to me they already tried that with the aluminum Macbook. I'm hoping that what they might do is offer a 11.6" white Macbook, with the main differences with the 13" being a lack of optical drive and the obviously smaller screen. All the ports the Macbook now has should be retained. The thing about a 11.6" macbook is, it would be VERY popular with kids that would otherwise end up with a netbook. With a price around that of a high-end iPad with 3G, say $799 or so, it would not be in the same market.

That said, the main thing I've noticed people like about the new Air's is the instant on that the SSD provides. Apples event implies, as does history, that what's brought into the MBA propagates to the other Mac computers. My question is, can instant on be delivered to the rest of the Mac line without resorting to proprietary Storage? Right now my Macbook can be closed, then opened and it seems to be able to start where I left off, but if I unplug it the "standby" time isn't 30 days.

I doubt they will get rid of the Macbook. The Macbook is baseline Macbook, while the Macbook Pro is the top line Macbook. It wouldnt make sense to have a Macbook Pro and no Macbook.

If anything I see them offering a cheaper entry level notebook. I could see the Macbook go to $799 or $899.

I hope they do keep it around! I use my White MacBook just about everyday and it's a 2007 edition and it's still going strong!!! :D
