Yeah, people will change their tune when the digitizer layer becomes flakey and they experience phantom touches randomly on the screen. I bet that Apple Tandem OLED Touchscreen panel ain't cheap to replace!

I already have something like this. It’s my 13” M5 iPad Pro with Apple Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. Otherwise, my M5 MBA takes care of everything else.

I don't think you understand what people will be doing with this Ultra MBP if you think your tablet with iPadOS is "something like this".

This could have just been the iPad Pro, if Apple makes it function more like macOS
I have been using my iPad Pro for work for some time now. Whilst Apple has made significant improvements, iPadOS is still too fiddly to do proper work. I'm not even a developer or anything like that. Using apps sometimes work, sometimes doesn't, sometimes has basic features missing that the macOS app always had. There are too many workarounds I have to do whereas I wouldn't have to on macOS

Or - hear me out - they could make a screen that doesn't have any holes in it. It's very annoying trying to game on a mac, for that reason, and a lot of game software doesn't really support having a notch or hole very well.

If this doesnt have cellular then I do not care. My M4 5G Cellular iPad Pro feels futuristic in comparison.
I am curious to see if this actually pans out. I was a fan of the Touch Bar, though not enough to miss it when I upgraded. But even as someone who liked the Touch Bar, I don't understand what value I'd get out of a touchscreen MacBook. I understand adding the touch compatibility for Sidecar, and I haven't tried that, so maybe it's great and made everyone realize they should just make a touchscreen Mac already. But I just don't see myself ever choosing to touch the screen of a MacBook when the trackpad and keyboard is right there.
I mean, Steve’s main piece of advice to Tim when taking over was “Don’t try to do what I would have done, just do what is right”.
He also contradicted himself at pretty much every single Apple event he hosted.
If he literally stuck to his word, we would have never gotten video on an iPod, a photo gallery on a cell phone, a tablet computer, an e-reader, an App Store, a Mac with an Intel processor, or even an iPhone.

actually, no...previous reports have said it wasn't clear if this would replace the high-end MacBook Pro, or exist as a separate product alongside it.
so this is good news, if it's true. my main concern was this being the only way to get a Max chip in a MacBook Pro.
and for people who do want a touchscreen Mac, you will now have this as a separate product line.
so everyone should be happy for once 🙂
Been so ready for this, but was so disappointed when earlier in the year mentioned most likely sticking to the older chips. Since will be insanely expensive, like many will be holding out for the real major update with the new m7 chip later in 2027 hopefully. At least that way they can work out any bugs in the first version, even though would have happily ordered that one if came with the m7.
I am a bit concerned about the Tandem OLED screen because even for Lenovo laptops with OLED and Tandem OLED, they have software to reduce the chance and perhaps delay burn-in.
So you will hack an M5 Ultra and Studio, the flagship products, and then M6 chips using new tech in the lower range models.. talk about Apple going to a confusing lineup again. I mean for all intense and purposes her Ultra will cost fro 3500 or more, have high end specs, but be slower performing then a new lower spec MacBook Pro with the M6 Max in it?
I think it is inevitable a computer screen will get burnin, phones and tablets not so much as the way you use them means the screen changes all the time, but a computer screen can be static.
M5 is a nonstarter. Almost a year old chip in a new device. Release day buy when/if it comes with an M6/M7

Pixel Shift in Windows is a cure, also the 3rd party software delivered by laptop manufacturer helps a lot. My Asus laptop came with a bunch of system/software settings which protect an OLED screen.
