MacBook underclocked to 1 GHz without battery?

    Is it true that MacBook underclocks itself to 1 GHz when the battery is removed?

    I hadn't heard that, and ones that I have seen in stores with the batteries removed seemed to run faster than that.

    yes it is true, but there is no reason you should be on your macbook without the battery in.

    Ok. I still can't figure out why it's underclocked to 1 GHz?


    Hmmm... I can think of two:
    1. It saves the battery when it's not exposed to heat of the MacBook all the time
    2. If the processor is underclocked to 1 GHz, MacBook should run way cooler than with the battery
