Took a while for me to get back...lots of good info. We went to Apple Store and of course my 16 year old son likes the MBP best. There is not a whole lot of difference in the two as far as performance. I have a MB and like it and he would be happy with a unibody MB but happier with MBP. The only thing that worries me is the end of cycle issue. I don't know if there would be a huge improvement to make me say I should have waited. This is a Christmas gift and hate to tell him wait until Feb! The Best Buy $150 gift card would be nice (more memory). But then again I am a teacher and I get the edu discount! Thanks for all the help!:D

I bought the Macbook Pro! Got it on Amazon for $1049 and no sales tax! Got it today!:D

the MBP have backlight keyboard. it is extremely good to have.
The FW port is a huge plus if transfer speeds is important.

The MBP is more durable due to the aluminum unibody.

I chose the MBP over the MB as well.

I was willing to trade the MB's HD size for the MBP's aluminum, backlit keyboard, SD Card slot, and firewire port. I don't need anything larger than the 160 GB HD that the MBP comes with. Hell, the MB I have now has a 120 GB HD and I've only used 93 GB. Plus, for the $1,049 price, no tax from Amazon, it seemed like a no-brainer to me (I also picked up 4 GB of Crucial RAM from Amazon for $89).

It's being delivered today, but of course, because I didn't have anything to do today, the UPS guy hasn't shown up yet. I bet he'll show up right at 7 pm.

EDIT: Finally, the UPS guy came.

Waiting until after first of year to upgrade memory. I waited last year on my MB and I picked up 4 gig memory at Fry's for $29-steal of the year!

Right now I Am using mostly a 2.8GHz Pentium D based computer which is pretty slow and lame, I also have a 3.06 GHz Core i7 computer I use for my power (non-mac) workflow just right, also hackintoshed it btw
Any MacBook Pro is faster than my Pentium D computer and slower than my i7 which fits perfectly my needs, I want a mac for stuff like word processing, some photo/video editing, some light 3D apps and some games

I still get the MBP since it's more durable, the white MB will look as bad in a month as the MBP used by a bear in 3 years, looks prettyer, and has some extra features, the single Downgrade is the HDD, I might keep the original one, If I fill it I just get a 500GB for some hundred an some bucks and I'm done :) the ram is the same in both models now but I'd make an upgrade to 4GB or even 6
