Hi guys !

I'm in need of advice: the battery on my Macbook Air 11 /2010 is basically dead - and I need a replacement computer. Given my budget, I'm considering the Macbook 12' (base model) or the Macbook Pro 2015 as they are priced the same.

My usage: productivity (email / web-browsing / Excel & Powerpoint), media consumption (youtube & movies) and finally occasional video editing (I edit 4/5 videos per year - 10min max @1080p).

I've been doing some research; and I've seen several youtubers edit with the Macbook (and even edit 4k!) without any hiccups on FCPX... Given that; and the fact that I travel a lot, I'm tempted to just go ahead and order the Macbook.

Would there be any reason to consider the heavier 2015 MacBook Pro (which has less storage!) ?
I would appreciate your input, as I don't want to make wrong purchase :)

Also...additional info: I need this computer ASAP, so I can't wait...and even the base new Macbook Pro I find too expensive. This will be my only computer (do have a larger screen and wireless mouse/keyboard for home though).

Thanks ! :)

I use an m3 MacBook as my primary machine and it works wonderfully. You also get double the storage compared to the Pro. I say go for the 12" MacBook, especially since you have a bigger screen to connect to. :)

i own a 2016 macbook, and a 13" 2015 macbook pro; i keep the pro for Logic X (i also run FCPX on it). if i could do all this on the macbook, i'd sell the pro in a heartbeat.

the size, weight, keyboard... love this on the MB. the pro seems archaic when they're side-by-side.

but would not run logic on it. still, for what your needs are, i'd go with the macbook, it's a great machine...

the macbook is a great and dream machine in term of portability. you can lug it anywhere easily. from desk, to lap, to sofa, to anywhere. it's a dream to use. for your usage, i'll get the macbook because you dont need the power of the mbp, but you'll be grateful about how thin and light this thing is.

Thank you guys very much for the feedback; it's great to hear from actual users :)
Also, the more I think about it, the less I feel I could cope with the 128GB SSD on the 2015 MBP...
Now to spice things up - I have a new questions (Prices in EUR):

I can get the new entry level Macbook Pro (without the touch bar) for: 1495€
And the Macbook 12' (entry level as well) for 1275€.
So 220€ difference; something I could eventually stomach if it is worth it.

--> Is a bigger screen, a still very portable machine, superior performance (for the long run) worth it ?
Or is the 12' Macbook more than capable and will hold as well in time ?

Thanks :)

that's your decision to make right there: power over portability. the new pro is not a lot heavier, bigger... but it will be more powerful. i love my 12" MB, but might have considered the MBP if it were out some months back.

if you can, go see them. then decide, what feels better?

Just got my Macbook Pro today - great piece of gear.
The Macbook is insanely portable & light - however the MBP also has an interesting footprint now, but the extra screen real estate is awesome, and will will be appreciated for long work sessions.

Very happy with this laptop :)
