Macbook White 13' completely dead

I have a white Macbook 13' It's an early 2008 model. The battery is completely gone in it. Over the last few months it hasn't been staying on without the charger, once the power cord was disconnected the laptop would immediately switch off. It needed the power cord in at all times to run.

Now all of a sudden it won't turn on at all, there is no longer a green light on the charging cable or anything, the power block does still heat up though.

Does this happen when the battery has completely given in, the laptop will not turn on at all?

Install iStat Pro to get battery readings, and try resetting the SMC. Also see the link for troubleshooting MagSafe adapters at the bottom of the CHARGING section of the following link.

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

Thanks for your reply, I can't install iStat Pro as the laptop won't turn on. I tried resetting the SBC but no luck.

I did have the "Replace Now" battery message while it was working.

Can these batteries not run on the AC only, if I take out my battery?

My MagSafe charger also doesn't light up green/orange or any colour anymore.

How can it be the battery if it won't boot when it's NOT in?
Because of this:

You should be able to boot without the battery in. You didn't mention if you had followed the MagSafe adapter troubleshooting steps.

As recommended, see if you can find another battery to test, or take it to Apple to have them test to see if your logic board is dead.
