Macbook Wifi Issue

I have a 1st Gen. MacBook (Core Duo). On saturday the Wifi started playing up. Will now only connect if I am standing next to the router.

Any ideas? I suspect the antenna is knackered, is there any way to check?

Take it apart and see if the airport card is still connected and make sure none of the antenna wires are broken.
