MacBook with a dead HDD

Hi, one of my friends has an old MacBook with Leopard installed and the HDD has died recently. No OS installation CDs are available too. If the HDD is replaced with a new one, how to install Mac OS on it (Leopard or Snow Leopard) ?

You can call 1800MYAPPLE and Apple will sell you a Snow Leopard disc for $29.
