I'm about to go crazy here so I would really appreciate some help.

I have a 13" Macbook and the internal optical drive is broken. It doesn't take any CDs at all—even when I hold onto the eject button nothing happens (no eject symbol on my screen anymore either). Instead of paying over $200 to replace it, I recently bought an external optical drive (Samsung SE-S084C). The reviews claimed that just plugging it into the two usb slots was all it needed to start working.

Nothing happens. No mounted image shows up on my desktop or anything. I even upgraded the firmware for the drive from Samsung's support website but nothing worked.

It shows up in Disk Utility and System Profiler (it shows up in the latter under Disc Burning).

I bought the external optical drive refurbished from Best Buy and I'm not sure of it's return policy so I really hope I can make this work.

PS: Every time I open Disk Utility, my macbook makes a noise... I'm not sure if that's significant.

Thank you advance for the help! I really need it!
