I had a friend who's A1286 2011 battery looked about ready to pop. He ordered a replacement from macbookbatteries.com. Anyone use them before? Are they legit? I suggested iFixIt but it's a relatively old machine and he didn't want to throw another $100 into it.

Haha.... at best they're just selling cheap chinese batteries... which is fine, but I'd rather buy those off Amazon where there are at least reviews to correlate the better knock-offs from the worse ones. Also, don't trust anything with less than 100 reviews.

So it's likely fake as I suspect?

I've had really bad luck with the batteries from OWC. (Outer World Computing) The first one was worse that the original I was replacing, it would go dead overnight in sleep mode and took out my external back up HD. OWC replace it and that one just caused my MBP to crash, Panic CPU 2 error, the Apple hardware test confined it was a battery issue. Don't think I'll bother putting in a 3rd one from OWC. Not sure what to do now...
