Here we go again
Reasons this is bogus:
1. Every Intel Mac so far, despite being an Intelization of an existing Mac, has merited some sort of public launch. The MacBook Pro was announced in a Stevenote. So was the Intel Mac mini. Even the MBP 17", by far the least important of the Intelizations so far, was unvieled at a trade show. No event is scheduled for the 9th.
2. According to the best information we have, this machine isn't just an Intelization, it's an entirely new range of laptops that replaces, rather than upgrades, the iBook. This is even bigger than the Toilet Seat iBooks being obsoleted by the slab iBooks. Name change. New spec. New technology. I don't think this is the new iBook, this is a new machine that's aimed at the same market, or a wider market, and the iBook is being replaced. Whether I think that or not, given the drastic changes we're going to see, why wouldn't there be a Keynote/press conference/etc to show it off? This is far more significant than anything that happened at the infamous February "iPod Speakers" event. Again, no event is scheduled for the 9th.
3. The evidence, even if taken at face value, is classic cart-before-the-horse stuff. So Apple has a product it's planning to release on the 9th. And if the MacBook was being released on the 9th, that's exactly what would happen. Ergo Apple's releasing the MacBook on the 9th!
Well, erm, no. Apple's regularly releasing new products and upgrades of existing products. There are some we know have to be in the pipeline. An upgraded 15" MBP, for example. Higher capacity iPods are likely. Indeed, improved iMacs and Mac minis aren't an impossibility either. Why would new, secret, boxes at Apple Stores only be completely new products?
"Aha", I pretend to hear you say, "But there's also an order to push iBooks". Apple must not know what they're doing if they try to get rid of old stock four days before the new product arrives. An order to push iBooks is likely to go out well before the new product release, not four days before when there's barely any time. If anything, this fact proves that whatever's released on the 9th isn't an iBook replacement. It shows the MacBook is on its way, but that's it...
In conclusion: relax. The MacBook is coming. But look for the right signs. Wait for the launch event.
