Yes, you read that right. There is a bit of a story to this, so let me explain. But if you want to get one for yourself for $26, then read on....
Over the past 2 weeks I've been looking to buy some sort of leather carry bag or sleeve for my new iPad Pro 10.5. I looked at options from many well known leather companies like Saddleback Leather, Duluth Pack, Copper River Bags, Pad & Quill, and of course MacCase. Prices for most of the nicer options were $150-300, considerably more than I would like to spend.
So I started looking on Etsy and Amazon to see if I could find something nice on a smaller budget. I came across a seller on Amazon called "TnsDeals" who has stock on a number of older and discontinued MacCase bags and they sell them at a discount. At first I figured perhaps a Flight Jacket for the 11" MacBook Air would work well for the iPad Pro 10.5, but even that bag at a discounted price was still pricey.
Then I noticed they had a Flight Jacket for the original first gen iPad from 2010. I guess since nobody is using such old iPads anymore, these are on clearance, so the price is only $26. My first thought was that the size of the iPad Pro 10.5 is probably somewhat similar to the original iPad, since the screen is bigger and the bezels are smaller. I noticed the dimensions of the bag are 11" x 8.5".
So I went over to MacCase's website to take a look at their new flight jacket for the iPad Pro 10.5, and guess what? The dimensions listed are the same 11" x 8.5". At first I figured maybe the Amazon listed dimensions are a mistake, so I used the wayback machine to look at MacCase's website from 5 years ago and sure enough, the dimensions for the flight jacket for the first gen iPad are 11" x 8.5".
So here is what I think is going on... I think a couple of years ago MacCase had excess leftover inventory of these older bags and so they unloaded them to an Amazon seller at a very discounted rate. Then recently with the introduction of the iPad Pro 10.5, they realized that the dimensions are similar, so instead of designing a new bag, they relisted the same product on their site but changed the description to say it's for the iPad Pro 10.5, and raised the price back up to $150. However, the Amazon seller has no idea (yet) that this bag is perfect for the new iPad, so they have not raised their price.
So I took a chance and ordered this bag a few days ago, and it arrived today. It's obvious this bag has been sitting in a warehouse for a while, as it was a bit dusty, but after wiping it off and putting some leather conditioner on, it looks brand new. And it fits the iPad Pro 10.5 perfectly. I have the Modal folio case (from Best Buy) on mine, and it fits with plenty of room to spare, so I think just about any case will fit too. With my Modal case, it has about a half an inch on each side and about an inch of space on top.
Anyway, it's a beautiful bag and I only paid $26 for it. Even shipping was free. So you guys may want to hurry up and order before other people figure this out and they are all gone, or the seller realizes and raises the price. Here's the link:
