Hi all,

I use a cMP 5,1 which I notice has been crashing rather frequently (around once every 3-4 hours). The machine hangs, and then restarts.

I have looked at the Event Viewer (I use this mostly as a Bootcamp machine) and the crashes appear to be Internal Timer Errors - please see below screenshot. I understand that this generally can stem from a number of causes, from overheating down to faulty processors.

Is this a problem that has any known causes specific to the 5,1 or is one of my processors likely kaput?

I rarely use MacOS on this machine however I don't recall that OS ever crashing due to this error, and I've had the machine for 3 years. It is a 2010 5,1, 2x X5680, 24gb RAM (6x4gb) running Win10 Enterprise (legacy) and Mojave.

Any and all help appreciated. Thanks

Just a stab in the dark - have you replaced your cmos battery?

The RTC battery can cause these issues.
It's a BR2032 , afaik Panasonic is the only company that still produces them.

Btw the battery is not cmos , only for the real time clock.

Right, I'll replace this and see if it makes a difference. Thank you.
