I figured using the disk is more user-friendly than fsck. Some people get scared off by that. Too... terminal-esque.

well i already did the hard drive repair with the CD.... and it didn't help.

and i'll try the account thing here in a bit. but shouldn't there be an easier way?? i just dont understand why it all went invisible...

I don't use Tinkertool, but I think it has a reset function. Assuming reset means returning any changes Tinkertool has made back to system defaults, you might try the reset button in Tinkertool.

it wasn't tinkertool that made it go away. i just used that to see if it would make it show up temporarily and it does... because it's hidden. i just don't know how to unhide it.

any other tips or ideas?

Don't know if that helps... but have you repaired permissions, updated prebindings, rotated the logs?

Have you removed the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist and then Loged out and Loged back in? Probably not.

How about force quitting the Finder and starting it up again?
and... that didn't work either.

:-(

right now i just have an alias made of the macintosh HD on my desktop so i can at least access it somehow... but i shouldn't have to do that.

i've pretty much given up on this. the darn thing will not come back. the alias i made on the desktop works well enough i guess. i just don't like the fact that it's not showing up like it's supposed to...

Bump...

Hey,

I know this is an old thread, but this happened to me as well. Did anyone find a fix to this problem? This is my second Macbook and it's getting quite irratating...

i'm still having the problem. until i find a solution, i just made an alias to the Macintosh HD on my desktop. that way i can at least get to it easily...

The solution

Dude. Try this:
Type this in the terminal:
sudo chflags nohidden /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD
Let me know about it
That helped me actually. Might help u guys too

Helping people in an allmost 3 year old thread doesn't really help.

These people may not even live no more. :p
