Dear all.

I’m on Catalina with my mini 2018 and an eGPU Vega56 from msi.

The system is stable I have no problem at all. All is working fine during works and also when I put my mini to sleep. No crash, no kernel panic on wake up with eGPU attached.

I discovered that fcp 10.6.0 system requirement is macOS 11.5.1 at least.

So I’m considering the upgrade. Can someone could post experience with eGPU and Big Sur? Is the system stable in all conditions?

Anyone?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Yesterday I have done the upgrade. All is working fine at time of writing. No issue at all at the moment.

Pleasant new modern interface in Big Sur versus Catalina.

Next year maybe will do the upgrade to Monterey,

How are you able to do that? I cannot sleep my Mini with a RX580 and Sonnet egpu enclosure. I am on Mojave which may affect things.

I'm using a Razor Core X with an MSI Vega 56... The mini sleep and wake up as without the box. Just for note I had got some problem with Mojave and eGPU and that's why I upgraded to Catalina when I bought the Core X.

Ahh ok, I wasn't aware of that. Shame I can't leave Mojave since I have a fair amount of 32-bit reliant software and attachable hardware.

Big Sur 11.6.1 Stable with no issues. No regrets yet. Upgraded about 3 months back. Getting better frame rates with the Big Sur. Catalina was pretty stable for me also at the end.

I finally trusted to install an OS update (11.6.1) with the eGPU in use instead of turning off the eGPU and using direct-attached monitor.

Ultimately it worked but it seemed like the Mini rebooted, no joke, about 10 times during the install process. And the monitor was blank/energy-saving the whole time except for seeing a tiny Apple logo a couple of times. Pretty hairy stuff.
