Symptom

Hogging of the CPU by kernel_task

Workarounds

Sometimes worked around by a safe boot followed by a normal boot, but the positive effect was rarely (or never) long-lasting.

Diagnosis

Not attempted. With the new Console, I could not get what was required.

Environment

MacBookPro8,2 with 4 GB memory, booting from a hard disk drive on USB 2.0.

Comparisons

Earlier versions of Mac OS X, on the same disk, rarely or never present the problem.

Not for me - since the update my photos are not getting on to my mac from my iphone...

It's been hit or miss for me since the latest developer release of iOS and macOS. Photos are syncing via iTunes to my iPad Air 2 but my iPhone 6 sometimes syncs them and sometimes deletes them. There have been a number of times my iPhone takes 5-10 minutes syncing photos from my nMac Pro6,1.

I'm assuming this is a bug so here is what I experienced and how I worked around it...

I have my Macbook Pro connected to an external display at 2560x1440. Been that way for at least 2 or three years without any issues until I installed Sierra which for some reason only maxes at 1080. To fix that, I am using an Active Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter and it now works fine. The HDMI port on my Mac however, is useless at resolutions over 1080.

Having the same issue... thanks for the suggestion, will try it when I find an adapter.

Sierra Beta is not offering me 4K@60Hz on my RX460 eGPU.

Also, some kind of overload when running the Heaven benchmark is not handled gracefully (the application becomes unresponsive and finally the display switches off).

The overload might be because of too much 5400RPM hard disk activity, not necessarily TB1 (antivirus, Spotlight). Or maybe the new driver is not production-level.

Other issues:

- PCI tunneling needs to be activated in the kext configurations
- X3000 and X4000 kexts cannot both be loaded simultaneously
- No way to switch between discrete GPUs is provided

- Latest public beta
- The antivirus and mds doing a lot of work is normal

I am waiting for some 4TB SSD competition, a 3TB SSD, or a good price drop on the 2TB SSDs.

Or even 2TB SSHDs, or 2TB 12.5mm 7200 RPM hard drives.

This machine:

750GB 7200 RPM hard drive -> 750GB 7200 RPM SSHD -> 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive -> 1.5TB 5400 RPM hard drive -> 2TB 5400 RPM hard drive

Similar issue and solution above. Until they fix it, you need to use a mDP to HDMI adapter.
I had switched to such a configuration independently but it did not work.

Natively, this is a 30Hz laptop. The OS programming probably never took into consideration that it should be able to be upgraded to 4k@60Hz via PCI.

Anyone else's Mac running hot on Sierra? I have the 2013 Macbook Pro 15 inch.
Yep, 2009 iMac running very hot, 1-3 degrees celsius from its Tcase. Its hotter at idle though since the fans spin up like crazy at load and cool it down 20 degrees.

Weird though since it was never this hot under Yosemite at idle (1-5% cpu)

I wanted to change the speed of the mouse, but it stays stuck on searching....

I turned off BT. I unplugged and re-plugged my USB mouse..

Is it because I'm using a microsoft mouse???

Vectorworks 2016 does not seem to work with Sierra GM. It's just bounces once in the dock then dies. I will have to roll back to El Capitan as I need that program daily.

Still unknown in Sierra GM.

X3000 and X4000 kexts still cannot be simultaneously loaded.

PCI graphics tunnels still not configured.
