fellas ima bout to bust. I'm so angry. in Sonoma safari always opened in private browser now it only opens in regular. why is this is there a work around or do I have to shift command d every single time I open the browser?

Does the Calendar allow different timezones for start and end times of an event, as can be done in iOS? mac OS can display such events from iOS but not create or edit them. This is required for travel across timezones. In Sonoma it is impossible unless you export an ICS file, edit it and re-import!

I ask because I plan to upgrade later, when version 15.1 comes along. Thanks in advance.

Something new I've noticed that's driving me nuts is sometimes when I click the top of a window to move it aside, the window suddenly fills the screen. And I'm not double-clicking it. Double-clicking the window after it fills the screen does nothing. The only way I've found to get it back to its previous size is by moving to the corner edge and manually resizing it. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to turn off that behavior?

Oh, I misinterpreted that. No, you cannot set unique timezones for start and end times.

I looked it up and apparently this feature already existed — you just need to enable it in Calendar settings.

No.

Only iOS supports entering different start and end timezones using the stock calendar.

The MacOS Calendar app does support it, but the event needs to be created elsewhere (such as on the phone, manually creating an iCal, or using a third-party app or service).

In contrast, MacOS can create "floating" timezone events whereas iOS can't.

It's been like this for many years, and Apple have ignored countless Feedback requests to sort these issues out.

Which application? I have not been able to reproduce this. Could it be that you are accidentally triggering the new snapping/tiling behaviour? If so, you can disable that behaviour in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Tile by dragging windows to screen edges.

Did you set it in Safari settings → General → Safari opens with: a new private window?

UPDATE: The Window > Zoom menu in Sequoia still does work and provides the desired zoom functionality.

It was in early betas because Apple geniuses didn't get a chance to destroy this feature yet (this was introduced in Catalina).

Now the zoom button functionality in Finder is totally destroyed. That's the only Apple's achievement on Sequoia.

I guess they were unable to implement the new window tiling functionality (whatever it is) without destroying an actually essential existing feature.

I submitted a bug report with a follow-up where I expressed an astonishment that Sequoia could be released with such a glaring bug. I hope many other users will do the same.

I’ve always hated Zoom with passion: Use Zoom once it enlarges the window. Use Zoom twice it restores the window to its former smaller size. So far so good. Accidentally move said window by one pixel before using Zoom the second time? Smaller size forever forgotten. Awesome.

What Apple should do is give us an option to change the default behavior of the green button: Fill, Zoom or Full-screen.

However, your message reminded me of the Window > Zoom menu which, frankly, I never used.

After trying the Zoom menu, I discovered that it does the same thing as Option-clicking the green button on pre-Sequoia systems. And the Zoom menu still does work in Sequoia as expected.

Whew!

Now I can assign a shortcut to the menu and continue using the same functionality.

Most importantly, the Zoom command fits the window size to its contents AND fits the Name column to the longest item.

UPDATE: the functionality is actually still there, it's just that the Option-clicking the green button doesn't work anymore (see posts above).

However, the Window > Zoom menu still does this. Just assign a shortcut to the menu (mine is Ctrl-Z) and it'll work.

Yes. Try restarting your Finder or your Mac. Maybe something got bugged on your end.

It also puts other artists to the side instead of underneath (unless there's no room). Unfortunately you can no longer initiate playback with the return key 😬. Hopefully that's a bug because it still works in other areas in the app.

Yes, I know. With previous macOS versions that option-click behavior of the green button is called "Zoom". On Mac OS X Zoom used to be the standard behavior of the green button, until at some point (OS X Yosemite?) they changed it to Full Screen.

Zevrix is actually right and nothing “got bugged” on his end. Starting with macOS Sequoia Apple changed the option-click behavior of the green window control button from Zoom to Fill. There's a difference.

Interesting. My Mac has been restarted countless times for Sequoia beta installations from 15.0 and now 15.1.

Option-click on the green button only expands the window to fill the screen (same as what Window > Fill menu does); consequent option-clicks just don't do anything.

I figured it out! The green button's option-click behavior is linked to the "Double-click a window's title bar to" setting in System Settings > Desktop & Dock. If it's set to Fill, Minimize or Do Nothing option-click will trigger Fill. Only when it's set to Zoom control-clicking the green button will trigger Zoom.

Mystery solved. On my end at least. 😜

Ha! Indeed. Good catch!

I classify it as a bug. I guess Apple got entangled in the new options and didn't notice it affected the Option-green click. I'll resubmit my original bug using this info.

If it's intended, then it's an ill-conceived change.

On pre-Sequoia systems I could double-click the title bar to minimize the window, and option-green to zoom.

What's the point now to have BOTH actions to do the same? Not to mention that it breaks established actions that users have used for many years.

But I think Apple just forgot about the option-green click. They added a new item - Fill - to the menu, therefore certain numeric indexes related to this feature have changed under the hood. The option-green click simply keeps using the old pre-Sequoia value, whose corresponding action has now changed. (Just my guess, of course).
