I’ve literally been waiting for this since forever. I caved and bought the 2019 iMac 27” in October of that year and I’ll likely hold onto it until next year and then upgrade finally.

Exciting year to be a Mac user – I'm pretty sure my next Mac will be one of these.

If the new major generation of iMacs has any unfamiliar new technology features, I'm hoping they'll want to announce these before WWDC so they can explain them to developers.

I happen to think that a low-end iMac model with M1 would be great. The low-end iMac has been so crappy for a long time, think how much better it would be with an M1. It's not what I'd buy, but it would be good for it to exist.

That said, of course there will be upgraded CPUs available in the lineup, with more cores than the M1. I would guess them to be labeled M1x. I would also suspect it to be the same processor as in the 16" MBPro, although I suppose it's possible they could diverge into a higher- and lower-power variant.

They will look beautiful as All Apple products, but if just contains an M1 the same as the Mac Mini, I think I will pass.
I believe there will be four tiers of Apple Silicon, and the entry model iMac will sport an M1 chip.
But another one will have M1X, and there will be a high-end iMac with M1Z.
The flagship premium chip will be exclusive to the Mac Pro.

I’m hoping they bring back adjustable height. Between all the magnet magic in the XDR and the iPad keyboard, there’s a real chance.
I keep thinking the same. Maybe a return of the G4 tongue design! Small base with the new cooler M1x/M2s and all I/O and adjustable like XDR but lighter with guts in base.

If a new ASi iMac is due soon, don't see why it wouldn't be an M1. With additional cooling, there could be some slight performance gains over than Mac Mini. This will sort of complete the ASi roll out with the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro remaining which we all assume would get a "next-gen" Mx chip.

I wonder if they will do the same form factor for this first Apple silicon iMac release, similar to the laptops, to have a faster release cycle and for lower cost market. Then have the redesign for the next release.
They usually go high end, halo products first.

Recall the first retina notebook was the 15 inch pro.

The smaller iMac did not go retina until a year or so after the 5K as well.

The XDR adjustable height ain’t great.

I'd take that, or better yet, a "reasonably" priced 30+" Apple display and a Macbook Pro that can take the heat. I cooked my previous MBP's (twice each) with the 30" ACD and so shifted to my present iMac. Miss the portability at times.

I’m looking forward to a 16” which ditches the dedicated GPU, even if it’s only one of many configs. Every MBP I’ve owned has slow roasted itself due to the heat generated from the GPU - although that’s worked in my favor I guess since I haven’t bought an MBP since the original 2012 15” Retina...

Wonder what resolution the 30” ACD would be? 5k?

My 2017 iMac is gonna seem pretty sad pretty soon. It already feels a little antiquated compared to my M1 MacBook Air, albeit not as much so as people had led me to believe.
My 2015 27” iMac is still going strong. Having the SSD really helps. Not sure when I would upgrade though. Still works well and stays cool even under load.

The new M series iMac will use the follow on to the M1 which could be a M1X. And there is already a supposed benchmark for the M1X. If this benchmark holds true it is going to pretty amazing performance for a TDP of only 45 watts.

The faster the bigger version (27 or 32) the faster I can grab a version two sometime in 2022 and run my whole business on that. Of course, once I switch to apple chips I'll need it for both my laptop and my iMac so I'll have to grab the rumored 14 inch MacBook pro too... 2022 going to be expensive for me with apple stuff lol.

I actually don't care, personally, so long as it's runs fast and cool and they don't introduce any weird new hardware issues or cost a fortune. People get all worked up about the bezels (cue pearl clutching) and "chin" but honestly it doesn't matter to me. It sits on my desk so it's not like I'm trying to keep it compact to put it in my bag or something.

My current 5K iMac is from 2014 and I use it a LOT, so this is definitely a "take my money" item for me.
Narrow side bezels are nice if you're running multiple monitors.

I think Apple will do the same thing with the iMac, 14” MacBook Pro and 16” MacBook Pro that did with the first round. All will use the same N1X and be differentiated by screen size and maybe GPU cores as an option. There will also be a replacement for the high end MacMini that will use the M1X.
