There's also a Apple help page about it:

Unfortunately on my late 2013 MBP 15” there is no option for battery health
I wonder if this needs a T2 chip

[edit]
Just re read the original article that mentions the need for 3 thunderbolt ports
Though apples KB entry doesn’t list a limitation

And yet the most valuable company on the face of the earth, so they must be doing something right.

Oh come on, didn't you know? Apple is the WORST, and everyone who buys Apple is the WORST, most uneducated, uninformed, sheep like, .... Kinda the theme of Macrumors. :). Apple can do no right and <insert derogatory name for Tim Cook here to make one's self feel more important> is entirely to blame! (/sarcasm)

Oh, the BIOS is very user-friendly and convenient. I can see why so many people were aware of this feature and knew how to use it. </s>

Great job ignoring the UI screenshots on the first post. And ignoring the fact that it comes defaulted to adaptive.

Meanwhile, Apple sat there ruining batteries over the same period and causing them to swell. And if you've ever had Apple change a swollen battery, you'd know they change the logic board at the same time. What's the environmental impact of that?

It is recommended that you unplug it and use it until the battery is empty once a month (if it is permanently plugged in otherwise, not if you carry your laptop around usually). That's 12 charges per year.
Apple used to (maybe still does?) have a support page which let you specifically subscribe to an iCal calendar which would remind you to do exactly this.

have fun on your outdated os then

Hey, when an OS release is as much of a steaming mug of piss as Catalina has been, I'll take "outdated" over "terrible".

Does using a MBP plugged in the whole timed degrades battery?
Yes, everyone knows it’s not good to any battery to keep charging it to a 100% and keeping at that point by trickle charging usually by leaving it plugged in like overnight not that good, so having a cutoff point is long over due

Apple is no longer the most valuable company.... just saying..

I was debating Mac mini and MacBook Air and then decided to by HP gaming laptop. Same price, better specification and more capable. Don't care if Apple is the most valuable company or not, value of Apple product is not there, at least for me.

After being Apple 2011 - 2020, I put <$1300 into a Windows desktop a month ago that I built.

Absolutely loving it. I put an RX 580 graphics card in it that I had from my Sonnet EGPU. I'm also happy to be back with Windows - the OS I grew up with, work with every day, and know like the back of my hand.

But I don't think most people out there are like us. :p. I, for one, am done with Mac OS. But I'll continue to use iOS and iPad OS.

Go Microsoft!

Better than mine.
I have a 2018 15in MBP and health is 95% at 70 cycles....
I don't think our batteries will hold up to 80% after reaching the designed maximum capacity of 1000 cycles without the Battery Health Management Feature.

Well, I for one really look forward to this. I have an 18 month old 13" macbook pro that has just had a new battery under warranty because the old one had swollen to the point that the base of the case touched my desk before the feet did. It's used 90% of the time in a 12 south stand in clamshell mode, driving two monitors through a thunderbolt dock- no external power means it can't drive the monitors so it only gets run just on the battery when it's not being used at my desk. The thought of this repair at my expense does not bear thinking about- new bottom case new keyboard/track pad and even a new base to the bottom case- essentially a new laptop less the screen. (it keeps the original motherboard though). It's more or less cheaper to buy a new mac mini than to suffer this repair at your own expense!

If I can keep my battery at 70% I will be a very happy bunny!
I agree with you. My MacBook Pro Retina Display is 7 years old and last year I changed its battery. It's already at 91-92% after 251 cycles.

Finally. But for crying out loud, bring it to iPads.

This is far too long and I’m upset that Apple has not implemented this with Mojave !

im sure Apple is very aware that many of their customers still need to have 32-bit application support and have many apps built with this and created internally for their own users and as of yet cannot upgrade to Catalina.

now finally a feature Catalina is worth having!

PS: this leaves evidence that both iOS/iPadOS/HomeOS ~ HomeKit vs macOS should have different development teams. Of course share ideas that are critical to both teams and part of the kernel though.

Thats why Lenovo is the top Laptop manufacture in the country!
Lenovo Laptops are also highly reparable and highly upgradable.
The battery is so easy to get to and replace!
unlike APPLE LAPTOPS.
LEARN APPLE LEARN!!

I have 2 Lenovo P73 Laptops and LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!
So much better than APPLE's current laptops.
Nice!!! Do they make a 15" that does NOT have a numeric keypad, which shifts the centre of the keyboard to the left of the centre of the screen, and thus making it horrible to use? Also, do they make one that isn't so damn ugly?!

Got a desktop with Ruben 2600X, 16GB DDR 4, RX570, 500GB NVME SSD and 4TB Seagate HDD with 650 EVGA power supply for about 1000 Canadian Dollars. Absolutely loving it.

Just yesterday, I got the HP Gaming laptop with Ryzen 7 3750H, 8GB DDR 4, 500GB SSD and Nvidia 1650 for 1000CAD. absolutely outperform any MacBook Air or entry level MacBook Pro for way less of money.

Windows 10 has been amazing OS for me since its inception. Never had any issue with Windows 10 it runs greatly even on lower end Celeron laptop.

Which is it? Is it in the BIOS, or does it require clunky utilities installed on top of Windows as in the screen shots? Either way, sounds wonderful.

It's weird that you need a TB3 port for this to work. Maybe it's a feature specific to the battery requiring TB3 to read some sensors or whatnot.

Maybe the T2 chip? Not sure why it would need much advanced hardware, as it just is telling the battery not to charge to 100%

Per The Verge article:

So, for example, if you’re the sort of user who tends to have their laptop plugged in nearly all the time, keeping your battery at 100 percent charge all the time is a recipe for shortening its lifespan. Apple says a variety of factors will play in to the computer’s decision to engage battery health management, including ambient temperature, processor loads, and charging patterns.

Does this work with a 2015 MacBook Pro dual graphics ?
