Hey all,

I had this problem back in Beta 1 however the problem has persisted into Beta 2. Randomly, macOS will dismount attached drives. I have drives attached directly to a Mac Mini M2 Pro and one connected to an Anker 13-in-1 hub (I think that’s the model). No power issues, runs 24 hours a day. Sometimes they’re offline (unmounted and not showing in Diskutil) and sometimes they do not show in Diskutil. I’ve run repair on the drives that act funky and they pass.

Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions on what else I can look at?

Thanks!

Same problem for me. No idea how to fix it.

Next time one drops, run: log show --predicate 'subsystem contains "diskarbitrationd"' --last 30m in Terminal. The reason (surprise removal vs unmount request vs I/O error) usually points straight at the culprit. If it says surprise removal, the drive dropped from USB physically-speaking (power-cycle on the hub or a bad handshake) rather than macOS ejecting it — that shifts the diagnosis toward the hub, not GG. Anker 13-in-1s are known to power-cycle downstream ports when thermals get spicy or the aggregate draw crosses a threshold, so moving the busiest drive to a direct port for 48h as an A/B is a cheap test. GG Beta 2 did also ship with a couple USB stack changes, so it may genuinely be a regression compounding a marginal hub. Worth filing a Feedback Assistant report either way.

Thanks for your reply. I’ll follow your instructions when/if it happens today. The concerning part is that the drives that drop off are connected directly to a Mac Mini M2 Pro. I do want to upgrade it but can’t for a bit.
