macOS Golden Gate Developer Beta 3 feels like a step backwards

A lot of folks do not seem to understand this process, and expect fully working solutions on the first go, and yes, it is annoying when things work, and then they do not, but that’s why these “releases” are Alphas and Betas… Not until Beta (at least) can/should you expect most things to work, and even then, don’t complain if something is still cooking.

Actually, EVERYONE understands this process and NOBODY expects most things to work at ANY point.

What a few people HERE don't seem to understand is that this place is the official Internet Rage, Complaint, and Know-It-All Bureau of B.S. forum. People complain about everything here. Nightlies, alphas, betas, shipping versions, or concept sketch on a napkin... it doesn't matter. It all sucks. It's all Tim Cook's fault. And no matter who says anything, no matter how stupid, ignorant, or argument-baiting it is, they're absolutely 100% correct and the smartest person in the room. Just ask them!

Isn't this really more of an issue of.....there are some quite big changes in presentation from one beta to the next, and it's almost giving the impression Apple themselves don't quite know what they want? And if that's the case there's every incentive for people to yell in any way they can, on forums, through developer feedback, constructively, abusively, rationally, flakily, whatever, however?

The rage and complain stage would then, according to this theory, begin in earnest with late stage public betas going into release candidates, and then continue through to the next WWDC.

I think it depends on how old you are and how long you've been "playing the game." I was beta testing software for companies like Apple, Aldus, Adobe, Macromedia, Scitex and a few others back in the 90s. Back when there were signed NDAs, software shipped on floppy disks and CDs, etc. There were no "public" betas. You had to be an approved vendor to test the software. And you damn sure didn't install beta software unless you had a very vested interest in it and had an extra computer to run it on that you didn't care if you had to erase and re-install everything if something went sideways.

Betas were really scatter-pantsed back then – to the point where one beta wouldn't even look like the same software as the previous version. Features would appear, then disappear, then partially return. And the shipping versions usually worked pretty well compared to the beta you were running just a few weeks earlier.

I know I had a rep at Adobe I got to call with any questions or issues I had. Often times they knew there was a conflict or bug with something, but didn't want to fix it until they had enough info about how it affected other aspects of the software.

At some point publicly available betas became commonplace enough that people just consider them actual released products and install them on their only Mac. So when the app or OS completely sh#ts the bed, they of course take no responsibility for their own stupid mistake of installing it simply because they have no patience, instead preferring to blame Apple, Tim Cook, Santa Claus, or whomever else they feel they can get away with blaming.
