I own Macbook Pro Early 2011 edition with Os X El Capitan 10.11.6 and i have tried a thousand times to upgrade to High Sierra but in spite of updating everything i kept getting error message that 8minutes remaining when i start download from the store and will carry on for hours on end chewing my Data into over 30 Gb without progressing. I have done all possibly within my power to no avail. Please help me.

OP:

My opinion only, but...

For a 2011 MBPro... if you still have the original platter-based hard drive in it... I'd suggest that you stick with El Cap.

If you absolutely-positively have-to-have the upgrade, I suggest you create a USB flash drive installer and install that way.
Do this:
- have a copy of the full HS installer available
- get a flashdrive 16gb in size (you could try 8gb, not sure it if will work)
- initialize it to HFS+ with journaling enabled
- download "Boot Buddy" (small free app)
- Use Boot Buddy to create the bootable flash drive.

Now, boot from the USB drive and run the installer that way.

Very difficult for me especially i am not familiar with the MacBook and i live far away from civilisation > Nigeria. isn't there a way to send the upgrade for me to install.Thanks.

I installed the new HS on my old 2011 MBP and at first after a long downloading and longer installing, it was about useless as a computer it was slooooooow and the little spinning color ball just never stopped so nothing would open.
Was going to just stick it in a box far out of sight and use my trusty non apple computers, but after a long cooling off, i took the MBP and tried installing the software upgrade found on the about the Mac Book menu i first used to install the new HS.
Well after another long download and a somewhat long installing, the MBP started working better then it had ever worked even when new in 2011.
So keep on trying to install and then use anything you find as upgrading software, i think Apple in their installing program is some how using two downloads and two instals to make thing work.
Apple needs to rethink something maybe look at Microsoft and how they have it RIGHT.
