Just a note in case this helps someone else...
I had an issue where a RAID 1 (mirrored) disk was rebuilt from the mirror.
While I wish the Finder would be helpful and show that something is amiss with the array, it doesn't, oh well.
In any case, it rebuilt, and in Disk Utility it will show percentage progress. Nice. Except it doesn't update dynamically, you have to click on another disk and then click back onto the array being rebuilt to see the updated percentage. This isn't horrible because the progress is going to be dirt slow with big hard disks. (12TB took about 15 hours)
The issue comes when it's done... it does transition from 99.9% done to 100% - briefly. All disk accessing on the array stops. Great! It's done!
But wait, now the percentage goes back to 0.0% and the array still says it's degraded.
I open some files, and see both disk lights in the array flash. Huh.
I let it sit there on 0.0% for a while. I don't want to interrupt some final process or cleanup.
But nothing happens for 30 minutes. Absolutely no disk accesses on the array, no updates in Disk Utility.
I figure that I have at least one good disk, so some experimentation is risky, but not crazy risky.
So, I unmount the array, and then remount it. Open it up in Disk Utility, and it still shows Degraded and 0.0% progress.
Hmmm. I open a file and both lights flicker again - not just one.
Next step is a restart of the machine, and voila, when Disk Utility is opened after the restart, it shows a healthy array.
