I made a screen recording of a webinar using the inbuilt macOS screen recording function and just realised that it does not record the audio. Is there any app or anything else which can kind of based on the video and audio playing, display subtitles? Is there anything of that sort?

I've used the BlackHole Loopback Driver for several years and it works Great!

But this is for going forward what about the screen recording that I already have now do I listen to the audio of the screen recording?

I just downloaded this and tested it so after I download this and install it and in the sounds select the Output Sound as Blackhole and Input as Blackhole virtual sound card driver and when I record a audio screen it still does not give me the Audio. How does this thing work ? Can you give the steps on how to get this thing working ?

I just change the speaker output to BlackHole 2ch instead of MacBook Pro Speakers (shown below). You won't hear anything through the speakers while recording and you will need to remember to change it back afterwards to listen as well. Click the Control Panel icon at the top and then the button to the right of the volume slider to change your sound output to BlackHole 2ch.

Do I need to make changes in Settings > Sound also?

Or leave it as it is to the default on whatever that is?

I recommend using OBS, as that directly records the computer audio along with the microphone. OBS also can output much smaller files than QT Player.

And there are not any free tools I know of that can transcribe audio to subtitles.

Do you guys also know if any good website or APP which can automatically generate subtitles for a Video ?

One more thing in the steps that you have mentioned about changing the Soundoutput to Blackhole 2CH is that also while recording a screen video or is it just for listening after recording ?

Just wanted to let you know and thank you the screenshots that you posted helped it worked great this time. I had before also installed Blackhole CH but didn't know how to get it working. Looking at your screenshots I could get it working.

Any idea or do you know how can I save the screen recording in a MP4 format ? Rather than the M4V and .Mov that MacOS Default Screen recording saves to ?

You can use iMovie to convert from .mov to .mp4. Just open up iMovie, drag the movie on it, go to File -> Share -> File. You can record audio in iMovie and attach it to a video.

Yes but if there is anything that does it as default like saves it as default in MP4 that would be great.

QuickTime Player can export a movie in different formats.
You should check what's available on your machine, as options might change across OS versions.

For more info on how to use QuickTime Player, see the Table of Contents for its User Guide.

I am uncertain what you mean. ProRes output is the only thing that exports to something other than mp4, and it's not default AFAIK.

I am saying if there is anything else like another APP which can record and give the output file in MP4 that would be great. Rather than going through Final Cut Pro!

Why do you specifically need mp4 and not mov?
It’s just a container, it can be changed without re-encoding with Avidemux https://avidemux.sourceforge.net
Even changing the extension from mov to mp4 keeps the file playable and importable in most apps.
