  • When a new macOS release comes out, all issues automatically go to "Untested Issues" until they are moved by someone. Issues that stay in Untested for 3 releases (beta or smooth) will be removed from all future threads. When there is a new macOS release, please be sure to let us know about the issue's status by moving it to either "Remaining Issues" or "Resolved Issues"
  • macOS 14 Sonoma will be installed via a Delta Update in System Settings. Please be aware about this and the update won’t install with an installer.

Still unable to use a Folder in the Photos App to cycle through Desktop Wallpaper Randomly. You can select A single Picture from the Photos App, but when you set it to cycle through a folder of photos randomly, you get the Default Sonoma Wallpaper.

I opened this in October, 2023- FB13282770
I opened this in MAY of 2023- FB12202204

Issues started in Ventura right before Sonoma came out in Beta, and then this issue has existed the entirety of macOS 14. The Feedback notes even show "more than 10" others are having this issue. And FWIW I'm still able to use a Finder folder to cycle through Desktop Wallpaper. I've even tried a folder with a LOT of photos and it's got no problem. Just can't use the Photos App.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just updated to 14.6 on my M2 Pro Mac Mini. Now Apple Mail’s Search facility is broken. V. poor.

Ah, now it’s working again!

I have updated to Sonoma 14.6 and the following apps are broken. They bounce in the dock for a few seconds then do not open... Messages, Mail, Notes and News. Mail was playing up in 14.5. The Finder in 14.6 is slow with some beachballing and occasionally freezes. This must be the worst update I have experienced in a while. Mac Mini 2018 64GB Memory 2TB SSD with Crucial SSDs for backup. I have been a Mac User since 1985.

Just FYI.

Tried all the apps on my 2019 16' Intel MBP with 14.6, nothing similar happened as you mentioned. Everything is fine here.

I have that same Mac mini (2018, 64GB, 2TB) and have a large number of external drives connected thru a Belkin dock. I'm not having any issues at all. I haven't been a Mac user that long, though 😉

After some indeterminate amount of time both of my NAS drives disappear from the desktop. It is constant, repeatable and started right after upgrading to 14.6 (from 14.5) this morning. Drives are mounted with smb://. Screen sharing with vnc:// works as usual. No issues with local USB drives. Apple M1 iMac 2021.

I've seen a couple of devices (including my own) on our Enterprise (802.1x/RADIUS) wifi having issues when they reauthenticate. Device still appears to be connected, but nothing works (SSL errors on browsers, etc). Disconnecting and reconnecting to Wifi throws a login prompt, as though credentials haven't been saved in Keychain.

I've been having janky bluetooth connection issues with my Apple Magic Trackpad stuttering and delayed when moving around/tracking. Reboot hasn't fixed it..

I have noticed an issue with 14.6 on my M3 MBA when connected to an external display in clamshell mode!

When I wake the Mac from sleep sometimes the dock won't appear as normal at the bottom of my screen! I need to go into settings and toggle on then back off again "automatically hide and show the dock" for it to reappear. Wasn't an issue with 14.5

restart to "fix it"

This seems very microsofty. Or perhaps more like, "Hello, I.T. Have you tried turning it off and on again"

That wording is not from Apple, is it? It was written by someone here.

Since upgrading to 14.6, my Logitech MX Master 3 (bluetooth) often will never connect again after waking from sleep. I have to forget the device and re-pair it, this is super annoying... anyone else seeing similar?

For me, I initially said a reboot doesn’t fix this but another reboot seemed to fix it for roughly 10-15+ minutes or so… and then it started happening again. Doesn’t seem like something we can “fix”.

Since 14.6 my bluetooth is mostly super laggy with brief moments of smooth running. The magic mouse is unusable. I have re-paired, run the Onyx maintenance but nothing seems to fix it. I am now running a nasty USB mouse. Nice one Apple. Please fix this.

aargh rubbish.

I've a M1 iMac to upgrade from Monterey. I use the same OEM trackpad.

Can you keep us updated on your progress and when the bluetooth issue gets fixed?

Be really good to know when I can upgrade the iMac to Sonoma without this key issue. Its the family machine downstairs which everyone uses on/off during day.

I'm not sure if this is "fixed" for me, but at the time I posted about the Magic Trackpad, it was at about 40% or so Battery. Dealt with it until Saturday and just plugged it in and left it plugged in overnight. FWIW, it works just fine when plugged in. Yesterday morning I unplugged it after it was all charged up, and now still seems to be working just as it should with no janky stuttering. Haven't rebooted yet to really confirm it, but everything is smooth still today.

Honestly? I would hold off until 14.6.1 if you've been holding on to Monterey all this time. 14.5 has been great for me, and typically a "point six" release should be pretty stable by now. I can't confirm anyone else would be having the Trackpad issue I was having, but that was on a 2018 Intel Mac mini. My M1 MBP has been rock solid. Still, though, it's possible we'd see a 14.6.1 update sooner than later, just to shore up any remaining issues and put Sonoma to bed.

I have noticed a bit of beachball delay on my M1 Studio Base Max (with a number of Firefox windows open and not much else).

I have noticed the same thing on my base Mac Mini M1 when I have 3 or 4 tabs open since I upgraded to 14.5 and it continues on 14.6. Are you still seeing the issue? I am trying to figure out if it is a Firefox issue or something else.

In the past I haven't had any issues with Firefox, playing YouTube videos and using Citrix at the same time.

Never once had a beachball reared its ugly head on my Studio Base Max prior to the 14.6 upgrade. I think there was a Firefox update not long before then.

No such issues on my M3 Pro 14" that I run with Chrome exclusively. So it may be more of a Firefox specific issue as opposed to macOS. I've had odd stability issues and behavior running Firefox on Mac's in the past on occasion so it would not totally surprise me.

Thank you for the reply. Firefox just updated today. Hopefully I don't see the beachball. If I do I will try Chrome.

I was getting concerned that is was a hard drive issue.

Awesome- thanks for posting the info. I just updated Firefox to see if it "popped" the beachball LOL
