Can you make use of it to game ? As a non tech savvy person let's say

Or do you need to dive into code and installing a lot of stuff , and tinkering
If you use an app called Whisky it’s very simple. You just need to drop in the DMG file from Apple's website. If you want to install just the base Game Porting Toolkit, it's very hard and very time-consuming. I did it for the first version. I didn't bother for the second.

If you want to run Epic and GOG games go here.

I installed a developers beta 3 of Sonoma two days ago on an external SSD connected to a Mac Studio M1. It was extremely buggy and I had a lot of trouble afterwards with my Apple ID when I went back to Ventura 13.4.1. For me definitely no more beta's! (I was surprised I could download this developer beta, I am not a developer).

I think I'll wait for public beta 2 even though I have been running all of the 13 betas with no issues.

Installed the public beta and all seems well (M1 iMac).

Question ... when I tap in the desktop, I get this border around the edge of the screen on both my iMac & my external monitor. What am I seeing? How can I turn it off? Do I want to turn it off? 😀

Thanks in advance!!

Get ready for Widgets, an absolute game changer, at least for me. I've been waiting for widgets to come to a desktop environment for over a decade (Windows almost did it with Tiles).

I have quadruple monitors and just 1 single monitor itself is used for Widgets only. I've got widgets for:
Stock prices for different stocks I own (Apple, AMD, etc), not just prices but news stories too, etc.
Apple News feeds for different topics I like (Tesla, Gaming, etc)
Agenda/Productivity like Calendar/Date/Reminders/To-Do and Events
Batteries of various devices
Shortcuts for easy 1-click things (open certain apps, turn off lights, etc)
Weather for different cities/states I often visit
Still a work in progress but adding more as I think of stuff! I wish I could put a Camera feed widget to view my Cameras at a glance.

I used to have my iPhone and iPad on stands on my desk so I can always, at a glance, see info from widgets (mostly iPad), but with Sanoma, it feels so good that I do NOT need my iPhone/iPad near me anymore! More desk space, less wires, it's such a good feeling.

Here's an example of what it looks like for me:

Since installing the Sonoma public beta I have a repeating error message saying, "Background Items Added: "System Events" is an item that can run in the background. You can manage this in Login Items Settings."
How can I turn off this repeating error message? It's taking up one side of the screen. Thank you for any information.

Anyone know if there is a way to disable temporal dithering in this version of macOS?

Geez...What a mess, I mean, I would be distracted.

Did someone get stuck on black "Apple" screen and a progress bar that doesn't...ehm...progress?
I tried to install Sonoma beta public above latest Ventura public beta on a M1 Mac mini.

I can't login, when i try to power-on the black apple screen appear like it is trying to finish installation, with a little bit of progress on the progress bar but nothing happens...and I let it go for hours.
I tried to start in SafeMode (no luck, same black screen) and in Recovery Mode (Sonoma recovery starts) trying to install on same internal disk. At first reboot...boom...black Apple screen.

EDIT: I tried to reinstall Sonoma and I didn't let screen go on standby:
- GUI installation started with more than 3 hours left
- After 20 minutes it was the longest "less than a minute" remaining message I ever saw
- First reboot and first black apple screen, no mouse on screen, it lasted 2-3 minutes and rebooted
- Second black apple screen and a progress around 20% and mouse on screen

At this point I tried to check if Mac was reachable (it is) and checked for open ports:

Starting Nmap 7.80 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2023-07-13 17:05 CEST
Nmap scan report for 192.168.1.100
Host is up (0.0021s latency).
Not shown: 1999 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
5353/udp open|filtered zeroconf

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 127.07 seconds

Should I recover from Time-Machine? 🥺

One mans mess is another persons cleanliness :D

All I care about is glanceable information, this is why I have multiple 4k monitors vs just 1 monitor. Sure I could just alt+tab, or do spaces, or Stage Manager, but I'd rather just have everything displayed at my finger tips and I simply glance my eyes, versus click anything, type anything, or go through different windows.

Same concept as any dashboard for other products, a Birds Eye view of everything :)

First thing you should run is disk utility in recovery mode. Run a first aid on your boot volumes. Then run diagnostics to verify your M1 Mac mini is OK. Then if you encounter this problem with unusual length of time involved, just let it run like forever. Sometimes we have encountered in the past such as Ventura betas where something occurs that makes an install take forever to complete. Obviously your fail safe is the fact that you could take the M1 Mac mini to the Apple Store and they could run a DFU restore (wipe-factory reset) use Time Machine volume with Migration Assistant to return your computer to last working backup state.

Also besides your ethernet, display, keyboard and mouse. Don't have any other devices connected to Mini's ports when running the install in case there is something else connected messing it up.

I'm a glutton for punishment and so upgraded to the beta. Might be slightly spritelier on my M1 MacBook Air. Maybe more native coding?

Although I'm really tempted to break my rule of no-betas on my my main machine, I think I will let patience prevail
