I am trying to understand the interaction of macOS and the Studio Display. I have searched the internet but am still not clear.

I would appreciate the knowledgeable people here confirming or correcting the below assuming System Settings > Display > Studio Display > "Automatically adjust brightness" is enabled::

  1. If the brightness is manually changed from 60% to 50% for lux = X then the brightness setting of 50% will be learnt by macOS.
  2. If / when the lux level changes from Y to X then macOS will change the brightness to 50% (note: this item in particular needs confirmation as it is unclear whether it returns to 50% or a blend of 50% and 60%).
  3. If / when "Automatically adjust brightness" is disabled then manual adjustments are no longer learned by macOS are not factored into macOS adjustments when "Automatically adjust brightness" is subsequently enabled (note: this item in particular needs confirmation as it is unclear whether manual adjustments when made when "Automatically adjust brightness" are / are not learnt).
  4. If / when macOS is asked for the Studio Displays brightness, macOS reports the nits based on a curve / table entered into the display’s firmware at the time of manufacturing (i.e., brightness slider = a → b nits)?
  5. Wondering whether anyone knows why macOS seems to forget the "Automatically adjust dimming" adjustments and reverts to full on brightness at eye searing levels!
Thanks in advance.
