With macOS 26.1 released, is Tahoe ready for mainstream use?

  • Yes, things are running pretty smooth, upgrading should be fine.

I only used it to hide certain menu extras I couldn’t disable. macOS Tahoe offers that natively now.
Tahoe allows you to disable menu items, but AFAIK then they are fully unavailable. There is no way to stuff them into an overflow area and bring them back up on-demand. That's what I use Ice for, to stick infrequently accessed ones into a spot where they aren't taking up space on the screen but I can get to them if I need to.

(If Tahoe does have this functionality, I'd love to hear about it...)

You’re right the functionality is pretty limited (enable/disable only) so it’s correct you loose access. Unfortunately macOS still doesn’t offer a native overflow menu for either the menus on the left and menu extras on the right.
