macOS user icons - classic

Interesting how the older macOS user account pictures are under a category called "Classic". I wonder if Apple will eventually do away with those pictures? I think they were last updated to higher-res versions in 10.7 Lion, but otherwise are a relic from the very distant past (think 10.3 Panther or so, some even dating way back to 10.1 Puma). Apple started using the new "classic" category started in macOS Ventura; prior to that, they were called "defaults".

The word choice Apple uses leads me to think that, because the Classic environment was discontinued back in 2007, with 10.5 Leopard. Sometimes I observe that Apple uses the word "classic" to indicate that something is going away soon.

Classic Macintosh is also the name of the brand new wallpaper introduced in Sequoia. Doubt that’s being removed. I don’t think all of these icons will get collectively scrapped any time soon. Although the list could get trimmed

Strange. To me, it just shows as "Macintosh" for the Sequoia-introduced wallpaper. No "classic" in the name. Perhaps in Beta 3; can you check?

Do you think Apple will introduce more user icons, ever?

My initial message was based on beta 1 - I can recheck when I update the beta but haven't been developing on that machine for a while after initial testing

Since my first own computer (not the company's own) I am making my own wallpaper and icons.
Gives a familiar feeling.

Yeah, this does feel like one of those dusty neglected old corners of the OS. I understand the need for there to be some default user profile images, but I'm surprised they've left this collection untouched for so long -- especially when they pay so much attention to new wallpapers and screensavers with every release.
