4K at 60MHz refresh looks fine. I've been using such a display with macOS since 2009. Since then I've added a 5K2K 40" monitor at 120MHz refresh, which is better, but not earthshakingly so.
I wasn't a convert until I bought an ASD... the ASD 5K is superior in every way to my Alienware 4K 180Hz Gaming Display... EXCEPT for the refresh rate. To be honest, for my use case anyway, I'd take 4K@120Hz over 5K@60Hz most of the time. I really prefer the fluid/smooth look and feel of 120Hz. But the reason my ASD remains my main display is greater brightness, even backlighting (much more uniform in the corners than the Alienware), the clarity of 5K, the convenience of TB3 connection to charge my MBP and also use the ASD as a hub... if Apple would have simply changed the refresh rate spec on my ASD (no need for more bass, newer A chip, mini-LED), I would have bought it already. But I'm not spending $3,299 for an ASD just to get 120Hz. True, 120Hz may not be earthshaking, but I definitely feel it's a quality of life improvement even for folks that claim they can't see the difference (same with ProMotion).

BINGO! Apple learned a valuable lesson with the original HomePod. There is a clear upgrade path for the MacBook Neo, ensuring years of increasing profits! Apple thinks you’re gonna love it.

This is a great and simple fix. Adding etching to the ports would be another process that they would have to do, increasing the price.

Apple says the MacBook Neo supports one external display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz.

That means it does not work with any displays made by Apple, not even their brand-new ones.
Won't most Apple displays permit 60Hz? Clearly it can't take full advantage of such displays but may work. That said, it's only relevant if one happens to already have such a display. There's no way that someone buying a Neo will then decide to also buy an Apple display -- there goes all the advantages of getting a low cost computer right out the window.

Apple doesn't make a 4K display. Neo can't drive the extra pixels of 5K@60Hz or 6K@60Hz.
